Abstract(s)
The current context of modern society affects the development of organizations and people, due to the fact that much of humanity devalues certain social and humanitarian values (Martinelli, 1992). Constant learning and innovation is essential to meet the challenge of growing social and economic needs. In this context, voluntary activity in organizations has been playing a very important role in reducing these needs and personal growth, allowing volunteers to acquire new skills, ensuring better adaptation in the changing market (Sardinha & Cunha, 2013). As UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon puts it, "volunteering is a source of community strength, resistance, solidarity and social cohesion (…), one of the most important causes of society." It is therefore up to human resources management to manage the organization so that people become the main factor responsible for its competitive advantage, especially in non-profit organizations that focus primarily on individuals' competencies in order to provide assistance and satisfy. the needs of its users. The main objective of this study is the discovery and understanding of the impact that voluntary activity create on the development of personal and professional skills, focusing on nonprofit organizations. In order to achieve the defined objective, a case study was conducted with a convenience sample of 53 students from the University of Algarve who volunteered in nonprofit organizations. So, in the first chapter it’s resorted to a theoretical framework of the theme, founded on the second chapter through a methodological strategy based on a case study and instrumentalized by questionnaire analysis techniques. The third and fourth chapters contain the analysis of the results obtained and the conclusion, respectively.
