Abstract(s)
Environmental sustainability is one of the most important global issues facing the world today, and concern for this topic has significantly increased in recent years. In the hospitality and tourism sector, there has been a noticeable rise in the adoption of eco-friendly practices to meet consumer demands, as these practices also yield benefits for businesses. The literature reveals a considerable number of studies examining the connection between sustainable practices, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty in the hospitality industry. However, there is a lack of similar studies focusing on Albufeira, a region with a high concentration of hotels, thereby highlighting the need for this study. This study aims to explore the relationship between Environmental Sustainability Practices, Customer Satisfaction, and Customer Loyalty in the hotel sector of Albufeira. The following specific objectives were set: to determine whether the implementation of environmental sustainability practices by hotels impacts customer satisfaction and loyalty, and to understand whether customer satisfaction influences loyalty. The research is based on a literature review and a quantitative analysis of data collected through questionnaires. It was further supported by the construction of a research model linking the aforementioned variables. The analysis method employed was Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), using the SmartPLS4 software (Ringle et al., 2022). The results indicate that the adoption of sustainable practices by hotels impacts customer satisfaction and loyalty, with an effect between these two last variables. This research reinforces the importance of environmentally sustainable practices and demonstrates the benefits that their adoption can bring to hotel managers.
