Abstract(s)
Milreu is an important archaeological site located 7 km from Faro, in the village of Estoi, Portugal. It includes a variety of Roman structures that recount a millennial period of occupation. However, despite its significance, there is a notable disengagement between the site and the local community even being part of a village with rich historical and cultural elements. This project aimed to analyze the current relationship between Milreu and the community of Estoi and to understand the reasons for this disconnection. Through online surveys and individual interviews, a discussion was proposed based on the guidelines of Community Archaeology to understand the main divergences and expectations between the local population and the site’s responsible agents. In this context, the goal was to identify the necessary competencies for a reversal plan and to establish foundations for the implementation of concrete corrective initiatives.
