Abstract(s)
Sexual coercion is a form of sexual violence that can be defined as the use of non-physical tactics when one of the partners refuses to engage in a sexual relationship. The present investigation aims to study the relationship between sexual self-schemas, self-awareness, and self-regulation with subtle sexual coercion through a correlational study with the Portuguese adult population. A sociodemographic questionnaire was created, with the aim of obtaining information regarding the age, gender, and marital status of the participants. The Portuguese version of the Sexual Self-Schemas Scale by Andersen and Cyeanowski (1994) was also used for women and the scale for men by Andersen (1999), entitled “Describe yourself”, the Self-Consciousness Scale by Scheie and Carver (1997), the Self-Regulation Scale by Schwarzer, Diehl and Schmitz (1999) and the Perpetrator and Victim Sexual Coercion Scales by Mathes and McCoy (2011). The sample consisted of 218 participants, 130 women and 88 men, aged between 18 and 71 years. The results of this study were not significantly revealed, so it was not possible for us to establish a theoretical explanatory model of sexual coercion.
