O principal objectivo deste artigo centra-se no estudo dos antecedentes familiares e artísticos do
arquitecto e escultor português Caetano Alberto da Costa, antes da sua ida para Sevilha. Filho do mestre
entalhador António da Costa, Caetano da Costa aprende a sua arte e treina as suas aptidões na ofi cina de seu
pai nos inícios do século XVIII, aprendizagem que lhe permitirá anos mais tarde, já em Sevilha, o pleno
desenvolvimento e consolidação da sua arte.
The main purpose of this article is to study the background of the Portuguese architect and sculptor Caetano Alberto da Costa, before departure to Seville. Himself a son of a woodcarver master, António da Costa, he learns his art and trains his skills in his father´s workshop in the beginning of 18th century, which he will apply and develop years later in the city of Seville
