Abstract(s)
O turismo é atualmente um fator crítico de atratividade de regiões e cidades, o que privilegia a procura dos centros históricos, onde é possível experienciar o sen-tido do lugar e uma grande diversidade de atrações culturais e patrimoniais.
Assim, ao longo da última década, os centros históricos portugueses regista-ram um crescimento significativo da atividade turística que se traduziu numa nova paisagem urbana, parcialmente requalificada, na qual se destaca o alojamento local.
Neste contexto, o turismo e o alojamento local representam um conjunto de oportunidades e desafios para a regeneração das cidades e são tema recorrente nos estudos urbanos, considerando o bem-estar das comunidades locais e a sustentabi-lidade da atividade turística.
Em termos de caso de estudo, esta investigação analisa o contributo do aloja-mento local para a regeneração do centro histórico de Faro, que se caracteriza como um conjunto de elevado valor cultural e patrimonial, diversificado sob o ponto de vista urbanístico.
Para o efeito, foram aplicados questionários aos titulares dos alojamentos lo-cais, concluindo-se que esta atividade turística é um fator relevante para regenera-ção do centro histórico de Faro, ao nível da reabilitação do edificado e da dimensão económica, destacando-se, no entanto, como necessário, a implementação de um conjunto de medidas ao nível das dimensões social, cultural e ambiental.
Tourism is currently a critical factor in the attractiveness of regions and cities, which favors the demand for historic centers, where it is possible to experience the sense of place and a great density of cultural and heritage attractions. Thus, over the last decade, portuguese historic centers have seen significant growth in tourist activity, which has resulted in a new urban landscape, partially redeveloped, in which short-term accommodation stands out. In this context, tourism and short-term rentals represent a set of opportunities and challenges for the regeneration of cities and are a recurring theme in urban stu-dies, considering the well-being of local communities and the sustainability of tou-rist activity. In terms of case study, this investigation analyzes the contribution of short-term rentals to the regeneration of the historic center of Faro, which is characterized as a place of high cultural and heritage value, diversified from the point of view ur-ban planning. To this end, questionnaires were applied to short-term accommodation hol-ders, concluding that this tourist activity is a relevant factor for the regeneration of the historic center of Faro, in terms of the rehabilitation of the buildings and the economic dimension. However, the implemention of a set of social, cultural and en-vironmental measures stands out as necessary.
