Abstract(s)
The LoulƩ rock-salt mine is one of the geosites of the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis. A 230 million year old saline diapir, embedded in gypsum about 100 meters below the surface, mined since the mid-1960s, is the subject of a storymap that tells the story of a place of relevant geological interest, with an industrial past of national reference and an unavoidable geotourism potential. This document aims to present the various stages of development and production of a StoryMap about the LoulƩ rock-salt mine. This geosite is presented in a simplified way, with image, audios and videos, as well as maps and visualization tools from the ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) platform itself, which allow the creation of an interpretation, visualization and understanding tool accessible to any user. The work went through several phases of different importance, where the treatment of available geographic data stands out, with the objective of producing mine maps and three-dimensional models of the contacts between the geological and hydrogeological structures in the region and the development of an ArcGIS StoryMaps about LoulƩ rock-salt mine geosite, which in addition to containing the components mentioned above, it has the function of telling the history and stories of the mine. This work made it possible to demonstrate the versatility of geographic data and the ESRI universe, as well as to verify that StoryMaps are instruments that enhance scientific dissemination of easy and visual interpretation and can be seen as future tools for the interpretation of geosites.
