Introdução: Associado ao envelhecimento populacional, verifica-se um maior risco de doenças crónicas, nomeadamente a Diabetes mellitus (DM), que tem sido relatada como um dos principais problemas de saúde pública, devendo-se a sua prevalência, em grande parte, aos estilos de vida adotados. Enquadramento Teórico: A prática regular de exercício aeróbico e de força, juntamente com a adoção de uma alimentação equilibrada e saudável contribuem favoravelmente para o controlo da DM. O presente estudo tem como objetivo identificar os hábitos de atividade física (ATF), a adesão à Dieta Mediterrânica (MD) e a perceção sobre a qualidade de vida (QV) de idosos institucionalizados com DM. Metodologia: Investigação transversal, de caráter quantitativo exploratório, constituída por uma população de 80 utentes. A amostra, não probabilística por acessibilidade, é composta por 27 idosos com DM tipo 2, referenciados pela equipa médica da instituição. Destes, 12 foram excluídos, por serem portadores de demência, participando, assim, um total de 15 idosos (7 homens, dos quais 20% praticam ATF e 8 mulheres, das quais 33% praticam ATF), com idades compreendidas entre os 63 e os 89 anos de idade (média de idades de 81,7). Utilizaram-se como instrumentos de recolha de dados, o questionário IPAQ – Versão 8 (forma curta), o PREDIMED e o WHOQOL-OLD, todos normalizados e validados para a população portuguesa. Na análise de dados recorreu-se à estatística descritiva e inferencial, nomeadamente ao teste não paramétrico de Mann-Whitney, através do programa SPSS – Versão 25.0, Resultados: Verificou-se que a quase totalidade dos inquiridos (93%) são considerados “irregularmente ativos A”. Constatou-se que todos os inquiridos apresentam boa adesão à Dieta Mediterrânica. Relativamente à qualidade de vida a maioria dos inquiridos do género feminino auto perceciona-se autónoma (53% de mulheres) assim como 47% dos inquiridos do género masculino. Conclusões: Verificou-se nível baixo de prática regular de ATF e de perceção da qualidade de vida, mas boa adesão à Dieta Mediterrânica. Neste sentido, importa que as instituições que integram os idosos e todos os profissionais responsáveis destas instituições conheçam os resultados destes estudos, a fim de oferecerem serviços e práticas quotidianas que promovam hábitos regulares de ATF.
- COVID-19 and people management: the view of human resource managersPublication . The nature of this global crisis has meant that these processes remain under-systematized. The aim of this study, which uses an exploratory design and mixed-methods analysis, is to contribute to describing the changes in human resource management practices and processes that resulted from this pandemic and to present the outlook of human resource managers for the future. One hundred and thirty-six Portuguese companies participated in the study, with the answers provided by their human resource managers. Results show that the main changes have occurred in the processes of work and safety, training, work organization, recruitment and selection, induction and onboarding, and communication. The profiles that emerged showed an association between the level of change and size of the organization. There was an increase in the use of teleworking and layoffs, and a positive assessment of the organizations’ level of preparation and adaptation to this crisis. Human resource managers reported that the most evident changes in the future will be associated with the use of technology, teleworking, and work organization. These findings are of the upmost importance, as human resource managers are essential pillars in the adjustment of the organizations to this pandemic situation.

- Empirical evidence for the validity of the job crafting scale (JCS) in a Portuguese settingPublication . Viseu, João; Santos, Joana; Semedo, Carla Santarém; Bakker, Arnold B.; Tims, Maria; Agrela, Sara; Lagareiro, BeatrizPurpose - This study aims to adapt and validate the Job Crafting Scale (JCS), a measure based on the conceptualization of job crafting of the job demands-resources theory, for a sample of Portuguese workers and to test its psychometric properties regarding validity (factor, convergent, discriminant, and criterion) and reliability. Design/methodology/approach - Two subsamples (n1 = 315 and n2 = 329) of Portuguese workers aged 18 years old and over participated in this research. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used to assess the factor structure. Findings - The results indicated that the Portuguese version of the JCS, with 18 items, has a factor structure composed of four-correlated factors. Furthermore, the results demonstrated the existence of factor, discriminant, and criterion validity, as well as reliability. Originality/value - This study provides a job crafting measure adapted to the Portuguese language that can serve as a diagnostic tool for workers and organizations.
- Establishment of local diagnostic reference levels for abdomen and chest radiographies in the region of Algarve, PortugalPublication . To calculate Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL), mandatory in the European Union, for the Algarve district in Portugal. Our results can be a valuable reference for the Portuguese official determination of DRLs, still in progress.Method: We considered 4,936 abdomen and 41,320 chest radiographs of adults, covering 7 health centres and 35 radiographers in Algarve. Entrance skin dose (ESD) was calculated for each radiograph and the corresponding uncertainty estimated. Mean doses per centre and per technician, and their uncertainties, were calculated to access dose variabilities. DRLs, set at the 3rd quartile of the total ESD distribution, were determined for a standard patient and for intervals of body mass index (BMI) to study their correlation with patient anatomical variations. Standard quartile errors were estimated.Results: Our results suggest significant dispersion in applied ESDs among different centres and radiographers. Estimates of DRLs also show small fluctuations across years and an important dependence on BMI intervals. For a standard patient, they are 8.7 +/- 0.1 (abdomen) and 0.44 +/- 0.01 (chest), while the European DRLs are, respectively, 5.1 and 0.2 (all in mGy).Conclusions: Results suggest that there is room for dose optimization and harmonization with European DRLs, urging a national dose survey and the establishment of official national DRLs. Official DRLs in intervals of BMI would be quite beneficial, to avoid unnecessary dose exposures.

This overall pattern is primarily associatedwith habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mam-mals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion formarine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems func-tionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is cru-cial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS INPORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublishedgeoreferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mam-mals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira thatincludes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occur-ring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live obser-vations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%),bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent lessthan 1% of the records. The data set includes 13 types of records: (1) burrowsjsoil moundsjtunnel, (2) capture, (3) colony, (4) dead animaljhairjskullsjjaws, (5) genetic confirmation, (6) inquiries, (7) observation of live animal (8),observation in shelters, (9) photo trappingjvideo, (10) predators dietjpelletsjpine cones/nuts, (11) scatjtrackjditch, (12) telemetry and (13) vocalizationjecholocation. The spatial uncertainty of most records ranges between 0 and100 m (76%). Rodentia (n=31,573) has the highest number of records followedby Chiroptera (n=18,857), Carnivora (n=18,594), Lagomorpha (n=17,496),Cetartiodactyla (n=11,568) and Eulipotyphla (n=7008). The data setincludes records of species classified by the IUCN as threatened(e.g.,Oryctolagus cuniculus[n=12,159],Monachus monachus[n=1,512],andLynx pardinus[n=197]). We believe that this data set may stimulate thepublication of other European countries data sets that would certainly contrib-ute to ecology and conservation-related research, and therefore assisting onthe development of more accurate and tailored conservation managementstrategies for each species. - Meditation effects on anxiety and resilience of preadolescents and adolescents: a randomized controlled studyPublication . Gomes, Alexandra; Santos, Joana; Vieira, Luís SérgioMeditation has been described as having a positive impact on well-being while reducing anxiety and stress among those who practice, mainly working as a resource to cope with everyday difficulties. As a simple and easy to apply meditation technique, transcendental meditation (TM) has shown promising results in adults and in children, although more studies are needed to show the impact on psychological and behavioral dimensions in children and adolescents. This quasi-experimental, pre-test–post-test study, with a control group, aimed to evaluate the impact of TM on the stress and resilience of children and adolescents, with ages between 9 and 16 years old. Participants were selected within schools which implemented the Quiet Time Program (QT), from those who volunteered to participate. They were randomly assigned to an experimental group (immediate TM learning) and to a control group (delayed TM learning). A repeated measures ANOVA showed an interaction of time and group on externalizing behavior, from the strengths and difficulties measure. The experimental group decreased on externalizing less adjusted behaviors, while the control group increased in this aspect, after a twelve-week period. TM failed to reduce anxiety and to contribute to resilience in the TM experimental group. Both groups improved anxiety indicators. The results might suggest students were acting upon their expectation of improvement on practicing TM or solely modifying their behavior along the contextual factors, which affected both groups equally.
- Metric evidences of the adaptation of the cultural intelligence scale in a portuguese samplePublication . Sousa, Cátia; Gonçalves, Gabriela Maria Ramos; Reis, Marta; Santos, JoanaValidating the Cultural Intelligence Scale (CQS) for the Portuguese population was the main objective of this study. Cultural Intelligence is recognized as a crucial competence in multicultural situations. The multidimensional cultural intelligence scale is composed of 20 items arranged into four dimensions and is used to evaluate the individual characteristics that predispose to better performance in unfamiliar cultural environments. The results from the analysis of main components in a total sample of 275 participants, aged between 18 and 72 (M = 29.3; SD = 12.9), replicated the original ones, therefore showing good validity values and internal consistency (Cronbach alpha .93), revealing the multidimension of the evaluated construct. Once the exploratory analysis replicated the model tested by the confirmatory analysis, the application of this instrument in multicultural organizational contexts can be considered an essential tool, not only to identify crucial capacities for the functioning of the human resources, teams or organizations in environments characterized by cultural diversity, but also to ensure the success in the integration processes of immigrants and expatriates.
- Online recruitment in Portugal: theories and candidate profilesPublication . Brandao, Catarina; Silva, Rita; Santos, JoanaOnline Recruitment (OR) is a growing trend. It takes place online, using tools that enable the receipt of applications, the search for professionals, a quick triage and provision of feedback to applicants. This exploratory research aims to describe perceptions of this tool, gathering data from potential job candidates and personnel stakeholders. Data was gathered using a survey and interviews. Results show that 46% of participants had already used OR and that for 42% of the applicants it took less than a week to receive feedback from the recruiting organization. Qualitative data suggests a dominant positive appraisal of this type of recruitment. It is considered a fast method and is able to reach a wide audience. However, it is impersonal and there are doubts regarding the control over the process and the veracity of the job ads. Organizations should consider the perceptions of different stakeholders in order to optimize the process of OR.
