- From concept to exhibition: on the creative process of an AI-driven stereoscopic video installationPublication . Amorim, Marta; Many, ÉricThis paper explores the creative process surrounding spectral spaces, an AI-driven video installation that reinterprets stereoscopic imaging through contemporary digital techniques. By combining generative AI with optical principles, the work challenges conventional visual perception, creating an unstable, fluctuating field of engagement. The installation adopts a structured viewing approach that encourages an individualized interaction, heightening awareness of the act of seeing. Through a juxtaposition of historical apparatuses and algorithmically generated imagery, it examines the evolving relationship between materiality and digital intangibility. Audience responses gathered during its exhibition provided insights into the perceptual dynamics at play, revealing how the interplay of stereoscopy and artificial intelligence fosters sustained exploration and introspection. The findings suggest that this approach not only expands the expressive possibilities of stereoscopic media but also raises critical questions about the mediation of vision through technology, illustrating how reimagined historical techniques can inform and transform contemporary artistic practices.
- Interconnected pathways and prospects: exploring the synergies between literary geography, tourism, and educationPublication . Quinteiro, SílviaThe inclusion of maps in literary works has been a long-standing phenomenon throughout the history of books. This practice is commonly observed on book covers, where maps emphasize the significance of spatial elements within the work. Moreover, maps are frequently found within the pages of books, serving to illustrate the directions provided by the writer and assisting the reader in navigating the narrative. These maps can take the form of either real or imaginary depictions, with a higher prevalence in travel literature and works set in fictional realms. However, beyond these explicit maps, readers also engage in the creation of mental maps as they follow the journeys of characters or mark physical locations associated with the lives of authors. The amalgamation of these various cartographic representations derived from literary geography forms the basis for literary tourism, enabling the development of products and experiences that not only serve as valuable resources for tourists but also possess significant educational flexibility. Within this chapter, we critically examine the nature of literary geography and the construction of literary cartography and explore its diverse range of applications, supplemented by current studies and relevant case examples.
- A propósito da palestra de outro dia – Notas sobre um cozinheiro-ator e do cinema como arte impressionistaPublication . de Queiroz Carneiro Dourado, Ana Patricia; Tavares, MirianEntrevista concedida pelo cineasta Leonardo Mouramateus e pelo ator Mauro Soares às investigadoras Patrícia Dourado e Mirian Tavares, a propósito da palestra “Materialidades da Palavra nos Processos de Criação”, realizada em 16 de maio de 2023, em Faro, no Algarve, no âmbito da disciplina de Materialidades Transversais da Criação, do Mestrado em Processos de Criação da Universidade do Algarve. A entrevista era um material de apoio das investigadoras, cujas perguntas foram enviadas depois da palestra como um meio de ter algum registro material de alguns pontos abordados pelos artistas, e às quais eles gentilmente responderam. As respostas, que foram importantes para o desenvolvimento de outros trabalhos das investigadoras, são aqui compartilhadas com a comunidade científica interessada no estudo dos arquivos da criação e das nuances do gesto ficcional, especialmente destes dois artistas – mas não apenas – em modo de convite para estudos futuros. Entre os pontos abordados estão a palavra enquanto matéria e ferramenta de criação; o laboratório-cozinha do ator-químico-cozinheiro Mauro Soares, algumas memórias de infância; a composição com o vazio; o cinema como arte impressionista para Leonardo Mouramateus, possibilidades para uma ficção viva e o ator como ser diante das coisas.
- Prospective workflows for generative AI-assisted immersive illustration: the case of multiplicityPublication . Sgrinzatto, Chiara Masiero; Araujo, AntonioThe introduction of generative AI into the field of immersive illustration threatens to displace both the knowledge of perspective and the practice of drawing as the main tools of this very technical branch of illustration. Yet for many illustrators this type of technical drawing is not just a tool but an end in itself. We consider what future workflows may accommodate both AI and handmade drawing in a way compatible with the market realities of illustration, and we illustrate our reflections with the case study of MultipliCity, an installation exploring and representing the interplay between myth and reality in the Venetian urban environment.
