Abstract(s)
This study has the main purpose to analyze the potential of the tourism micro niche dark literary tourism in Lisbon, Portugal with the intent to evaluate in an economic and financial perceptive, the feasibility of commercializing itineraries in the region. Therefore, the literature review clarifies the fundamental concepts (cultural tourism, literary tourism, dark tourism, and storytelling) to complete the study. The project continues with the elaboration of the business plan to assess the feasibility of the creation of a dark literary tourism itinerary. To finalize the study, it was developed the itinerary The Pogrom of 1506: an itinerary of Berequias Zarcos` Lisbon based on the actual events of the Jewish Massacre of 1506 and Richard Zimler’s novel The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon. The methodology applied lies on the collection of qualitative secondary and primary data, supporting the elaboration of the semi-structured interviews implemented to the author of the book and the participants of the tour test. In the aftermath of the interviews, it’s possible to conclude that dark literary tourism is a market micro niche that is lacking promotion and exploration in Portugal, in this case in Lisbon, however it’s a concept with considerable relevance. Last of all, the business plan allowed to prove that the itinerary in question is feasible economically and financially in the Lisbon area and in the future in different regions of Portugal. By using an assessment tool of investment projects provided by the Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve (CRIA), it was determined, accordingly with the NPV, IRR and the payback period, that the creation of a future business of dark literary itineraries will have high probability of creating financial surpluses for three years, in addition to the recovery of the amount invested initially.
