Abstract(s)
lexical?
conhecimento lexical do(a) estudante.
Lexical development promoted through knowledge and awareness of the lexicon of the language is a determining factor in the individual's linguistic development towards the acquisition of new knowledge, the view of the world, education, to live in the community and society. In this regard, a study was carried out in which the main research questions were: (i) How to promote lexical awareness of 5th grade students in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education? and (ii) Which teaching strategies promote the development of lexical awareness? To answer these questions, a research project was designed and implemented in a 5th grade class at a school in the Algarve. The data collection techniques and instruments selected for this study were participant observation, field notes, tests applied during the diagnostic action, during the pedagogical intervention and in the final evaluation, as well as a questionnaire survey. The research results showed that promoting lexical awareness through the explicit teaching of new words in the classroom has positive results for students' lexical knowledge. Among the various strategies applied, the ones that produced the most significant results were those relating to the exploration of word families and synonyms.
