Os jardins residenciais são jardins privados muitas vezes planeados pelos próprios proprietários e que possuem um papel fundamental a nível social e ambiental, aproximando o ser humano da natureza. Esta tipologia de jardins, tem vindo a ganhar elevado destaque no litoral algarvio devido ao crescimento de resorts turísticos associados ao turismo sol-praia-golf, como é o caso da Quinta do Lago e Vale de Lobo. Contudo, a composição destes espaços verdes encontra-se pouco compreendida e estudada. Posto isto, através de análise feita aos projetos desenvolvidos durante o estágio e reunião com o orientar do mesmo, procurou-se perceber quais as razões que levam um proprietário a procurar um técnico para projetar o seu jardim, quais os aspetos mais importantes a integrar num projeto de arquitetura paisagista deste caráter e quais as preferências dos proprietários na organização funcional e escolha de espécies do seu jardim.
A análise realizada aos jardins residenciais privados da Quinta do Lago e Vale de lobo demonstrou que existe pouca diversidade relativamente à quantidade de espécies propostas. Na escolha das espécies, os clientes dão preferência a características relacionadas com o aspeto estético e não demonstram preocupação com fatores relacionados com a sustentabilidade, como por exemplo a necessidade hídrica das plantas.
O estudo desta tipologia de espaços verdes demonstrou que os clientes preferem espécies exóticas e a áreas com relvado. Muitas vezes a escolha da vegetação ou da tipologia de jardim vai de encontro ao que os clientes vêm nos outros jardins da Quinta do Lago tais como: Sebe a delimitar o lote, zonas de estadia com relva , zona de barbecue junto à piscina e campo de jogos.
Residential gardens are private gardens often planned by the owners and play a fundamental social and environmental role, bringing human beings closer to nature. This type of garden has been gaining prominence on the Algarve coast due to the growth of tourist resorts associated with sun-beach-golf tourism, such as Quinta do Lago and Vale de Lobo. However, the composition of these green spaces needs to be better understood and studied. That said, through an analysis of the projects developed during the internship and a meeting with the intern's supervisor, we sought to understand the reasons that lead a homeowner to seek out a technician to design their garden, which are the most important aspects to include in a landscape architecture project of this nature and what the homeowners' preferences are when it comes to the functional organisation and choice of species in their garden. The analysis of the private residential gardens in Quinta do Lago and Vale de lobo showed little diversity in the number of species proposed. When choosing species, customers give preference to characteristics related to aesthetics and do not show interest in factors related to sustainability, The study of this type of green area has demonstrated that clients prefer exotic species and areas with grass. Often the choice of vegetation or style of garden is based on what clients see in Quinta do Lago's neighbouring, such as: hedges delimiting the plot, seating areas with grass, a barbecue area by the pool and a playing field.
