dc.description.abstractIn Portugal, the knowledge of the teaching practices and its conceptualization by the teachers of French as a Foreign Language (FFL) is yet scarcely studied. Actually, the studies that report theorical and methodological applications in the field of the teaching of writing are mainly focused on the area of Mother Tongue education and, more recently, on EFL teaching. Therefore, this study acquires a special relevance since it enables us to know the conceptions of the FFL teachers about their teaching writing practices. We also build the theoretical construct of best practices of teaching writing, firstly through the analysis of theoretical and methodological research in this area, and secondly by asking the FFL teachers what they consider as their best practices. Data have been collected through questionnaires, sent to the schools of the Algarve region. We also concluded interviews, organized around a hidden agenda, to a small sample of the population. Data treatment included statistical analysis and content analysis. Findings reveal that the teaching of writing is still done in accordance with traditional product methodologies. Results also demonstrate that the participants have difficulties in describing their own teaching practices. Nevertheless, this study identifies teachers whose discourse indicates the development of good practices in teaching writing.eng
