Abstract(s)
Held by museums and film institutes and converted, nowadays, in records of collective memory from the dictatorship, newsreels have attracted the attention of several, and rather insulated, national academy contexts. A comparative study of these images produced in different countries can illuminate certain aspects which escape particular approaches. Therefor, in this article we will discuss the indoctrination of the idea of "peninsular fraternity"in the treatment of two political events by the Spanish and Portuguese newsreels. Franco's visit to Portugal, in 1949, in NO-DO and Jornal Português; and the coverage of Adolfo Suaréz's visit to Portugal, in 1976, by Journal Cinematográfico Nacional.
