| dc.description.abstract | This article addresses audiovisual literacy as an essential element for the understanding and critical production of media content in contemporary society. The research adopts a qualitative approach, based on a literature review, interviews with professors and researchers on the subject, and an analysis of educational practices, in order to investigate how audiovisual literacy can be developed within the educational context. The main topics discussed include the evolution of the concept, its relevance in the digital age, and pedagogical strategies for its implementation in teaching, exemplified by Portugal’s National Cinema Plan (PNC). The results indicate that audiovisual literacy is fundamental for promoting critical media reading, enabling individuals to consciously and reflectively interpret, analyze, and create audiovisual content. Moreover, the study highlights the need for teacher training and educational policies that support the inclusion of audiovisual literacy in school curricula. It concludes that the development of this competence contributes to building a more active and informed citizenship, reinforcing the importance of educational policies that encourage media and audiovisual literacy as an essential part of academic education. | eng |
