  • Determinants of entrepreneurship in small and medium entreprises in the defense sector
    Publication . Almeida, H.; Briones-Peñalver, Antonio-Juan; Fernandes, Silvia Brito
  • Strategy for the modernization of the armed forced: a study made with small and medium companies of the sector of the spanish defence
    Publication . Almeida, H.; Briones-Peñalver, Antonio-Juan
Concerning the model Attitudes-Intentions of behaviour (Bagozzi, 1992) and the comprehensive model of Turnover (Griffeth & Hom, 2001), the present study intends to analyze the mediating role of three attitudes (affective commitment, general satisfaction and satisfaction oriented towards the client) in the relationship that variables characterizing the work (Job Motivating Potential, Perception of Employment Alternatives and Sacrifice Perception) establish with output variables (Intention of Turnover and Organization Recommendation). We used a heterogeneous sample of 303 workers belonging to different actors of hotel business. The results of the mediating tests clarify the importance of the considered attitudes in the way job characteristics affect the intentions of behavior of the hotel employees. In general, we think our results can contributed to develop a relevant model for explaining the behavioral intentions of the professionals working with clients (front-office), which conciliates the practices of human resources with the logic of the market.

Entrepreneurship education is essential not only to shape the mindsets of young people but also to provide the skills that are important to developing an entrepreneurial culture. The entrepreneurship key competence refers to an individual’s ability to turn ideas into action. It includes creativity, innovation, and the ability to plan projects in order to achieve objectives. Besides, communication and ICT are relevant in innovation processes in organizations, especially in schools where people interact daily and it is intended to ensure a good future for the organization. • Determinants of entrepreneurship in SMEs in the defense sector
    Publication . Almeida, H.; Briones-Peñalver, Antonio-Juan; Fernandes, Silvia Brito
All over the world, the small and medium enterprises are more and more organized in consortia, cooperation networks, joint-ventures and strategical alliances allowing not only the reduction of uncertainty and turbulence of the markets but also the gathering of advantages which may make them more competitive. It is worth considering that the results of these relationships are affected by determinant factors which may inhibit or facilitate the entrepreneurship. Our aim is to evaluate the relationship between some of those determinants, association, inter-company cooperation, innovation in the methods of work and creativity—about the entrepreneurship in 236 small and medium enterprises of the national defence. One of the questions initially posed is if there is a significant relation between corporation, innovative methods of work, creativity and entrepreneurship; The second question is being creativity an attribute of the entrepreneur, can it have a mediator effect between innovative methods of work and entrepreneurship. A factorial exploratory analysis was made in main components (varimax rotation) and multiple linear regression. The results show the direct relationship of the evaluated determinants and entrepreneurship and, the partial mediator effect of the creativity between the innovation in the methods of work and entrepreneurship. These enterprises may expect to develop new methods of work as a high differential component concerning the competition and the more efficient use of knowledge and of the skills of the people who make part of the work team in order to increase their competitiveness.

  • Corporate social responsibility and sustainability through Institutional legitimacy in police forces
Publication . Briones-Peñalver, Antonio-Juan; Olmo Fernandez, Ignacio del; Fernández Cañavate, Francisco-José; Santos, José António C.
This paper analyses the effect of institutional legitimacy on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability in police forces through their methods and procedures (procedural justice) that determine citizens’ trust in the police, which theoretically influences organised coexistence in human communities (social effectiveness). CSR can increase collective well-being through legitimacy, sustained by police action. An anonymous citizen survey was carried out to verify the theoretical proposal to inquire about their opinions on the legitimacy, methods, and community relations between Spanish police forces and the community. The hypotheses were analysed with a structural equation system. The practical implications aspire to know the citizens’ opinions about the methods and procedures used by the Spanish police and their relations with Spanish civilians. Finally, citizens consider that police actions and procedures are institutionally and legally regulated competencies, and, therefore, citizens cannot influence them.
