- Examining the position of Nigeria healthcare sector in technological advancementsPublication . Oladoye, Benjamin Osuola; Pedro, Ilda Maria HortaHealthcare delivery services in Nigeria has not gained enough attention in the adoption of advanced medical technology. This void can be traced back to the underutilization of modern diagnostic tools in healthcare institutions at all the levels of healthcare delivery in the country. We present the challenges facing the implementation from the patient side and healthcare institution is driven by the high cost of medical services, distance to a well-equipped health facility, attitude of health workers, inadequate financial allocation and resources to hospitals, inadequate training and exposure of technology trends to the medical staffs at colleges or the healthcare management bodies. This study main aim is to bridge this gap by examining the position of Nigeria healthcare sector in technological advancements and presenting more scientific and technological evidence to improve care standards at a Nigerian hospital. The study utilized a quantitative technique to collect and analyze data. Digital self-reporting scale questionnaire was intended to gather pertinent information regarding the key variables. The questionnaire included, but not be limited to, questions concerning healthcare satisfaction, technology use, the professionality of the medical personnel, motivational factors, cost of healthcare. ANOVA was employed to design the key consideration from the dependent and independent variables, between group and within group variance and consistency and significance difference. The study's findings emphasize the transformative part of advanced medical innovations like telemedicine and clinical decision support systems in upgrading healthcare quality and productivity. These innovations have illustrated their potential to move forward patient results, organized healthcare delivery, and support therapeutic experts in making informed choices.
- The negative influence of social media on adolescent well-being in the ukPublication . Sunday, Glory Ewere; Pimpão, Pedro Gonçalo TenazinhaSocial media is wildly used by United Kingdom adolescents, with potential benefits and harm. This study examined the adverse impact of social media on adolescent well-being in the United Kingdom. The study used a mixed-method approach. 150 respondents were chosen through convenience sampling. An online survey was used to collect data from participants who accessed the study link via emails. SPSS was used to examine survey data. Regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between the frequency and timing of social media engagement and self-reported outcomes. Out of the 150 chosen participants, only 67 fully completed the study questionnaire, resulting in a response rate of 44.67%. The research findings revealed that social media considerably affects the sleep patterns (50%), anxiety, tension, and emotional discomfort (50%) of United Kingdom teens. Most respondents participate in life comparisons, highlighting their vulnerability to digital platforms. Correlation study (r = -0.292, p < 0.05) revealed a relationship between extended social media use and deteriorating mental health in teenagers. In the realm of cyberbullying, while a minority of teenagers reported being direct victims, a substantial percentage acknowledged witnessing online abuse. The mean score for teenagers reporting direct bullying on social media was 1.72. The mean score for seeing others endure bullying was markedly high at 2.87. The findings indicate that passive exposure to cyberbullying is very widespread. Ultimately, participants indicated that social validation metrics, such as likes and comments, significantly influenced their self-esteem. The study confirms that social media involvement among adolescents has significant psychological dangers. These concerns include altered sleep patterns, heightened stress, vulnerability to cyberbullying, and diminished self-esteem. The research emphasises the need for a unified, coordinated strategy to mitigate these risks. However, the research's applicability to the wider teenage population is constrained by its modest sample size of 67 individuals in the United Kingdom.
- The role of creative tourism in tackling social exclusion among older artisans: The case of Loulé CriativoPublication . Akdemir, Hilal; Gonçalves, Maria Alexandra Patrocínio Rodrigues; José, José Manuel Sousa de SãoThis thesis investigates the transformative potential of creative tourism by examining its role in tackling social exclusion among older artisans and enhancing their quality of life. Structured as three interconnected papers, the research includes a systematic review of the literature, and two qualitative papers reporting an exploratory case study within the Loulé Criativo Turismo Network. The first paper presents a comprehensive map of empirical research on creative tourism, revealing lines of research, research settings and participants, theoretical approaches, research conclusions, and methodological imbalances. The second paper explores the role of creative tourism in tackling social exclusion among older artisans, emphasizing which and how the various dimensions of social exclusion are positively affected by the provision of creative tourism activities by older artisans. The third paper examines the impact of creative tourism on the quality of life of older artisans, identifying the dimensions of quality of life that are positively impacted by the participation of older artisans in the provision of creative tourism activities, as well as the mechanisms through which this impact occurs. The results of these two papers clearly point to the role of creative tourism in promoting social inclusion and quality of life for older artisans. These results have implications for tourism research, as well as to policy and professional practice. All in all, this thesis establishes a link between creative tourism, social inclusion, and quality of life, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness among researchers, tourism professionals and policymakers to harness the full potential of creative tourism in contributing to the well-being of individuals involved in or affected by creative tourism activities.
