Abstract(s)
In recent decades, the conceptual expansion of cultural heritage has been accompanied by a diversification of forms of dissemination and methodological procedures, mainly in the educational context, taking advantage of the open horizons and contributions made by digital technologies. Today, the extreme importance of cultural heritage in young people’s education is known, in the perception and understanding of the past as a solid and essential basis for building a promising future for all. There are times and moments of strong impacts caused by digital transformation, and heritage education has the obligation to adapt and answer to these challenges, being crucial and fundamental that pedagogical approaches integrate the potential of technologies that are recognized by adding pedagogical value to the teaching-learning process, such as game-based learning and, therefore, Minecraft: Education Edition. Through literature review; the structuring and implementation of an education project, using Minecraft: Education Edition to explore the built heritage; and the subsequent analysis of results, this exploratory research intends to make an approach to new ways of heritage education, establishing an interdisciplinary model, allowing to understand the impact of these approaches in education context and in the valorisation of the built heritage, using the MI.MOMO.FARO – Minecraft and the Modernist Architecture of Faro project as a case study. Through this practice-based research, it is concluded that the use of video games and, consequently, the MI.MOMO.FARO project have significant impact on the teaching-learning process, in terms of heritage education; in understanding cultural heritage as the basis of transversal education; in the valorisation and safeguarding of heritage assets; as well as the construction of a cultural citizenship.
