- Contemporary female voices: The case study of Our Uniform, by Yegane MoghaddamPublication . Peres, Cátia; Levitan, CynthiaThis article is focused on the relevance of addressing contemporary representation of women in animation films. Its main objective is to create awareness on the theme, to contribute to a global dialogue that helps to fight intolerance against women and to promote an ethical conscientization of mutual coexistence, based on human rights, with a special focus on gender equal-ity. To achieve this objective, our research conductedan analysis of the case study, Our Uniform (2023), directed by Iranian Yegane Moghaddam, which reflects the problematics of women in a very expressive terms, in a geography where the extreme consequences of violence against women have not yet been resolved and which contributes to answer our objective. As a methodology of research, we combined literature review focused on the representations of women in the Islamic world, a series of three interviews conducted by the authors to the Iranian film director to determine her intentions and to understand the contemporary Iranian as a primary source of information, and the use of a animation model of analysis created specifically for animated film (Peres, 2019).
- Diversity, interculturalism & community building in the Algarve: preliminary findings for imagining a digital road map of hopePublication . Viegas, Sílvia LeiriaThe Algarve is the first Portuguese region with more immigrants per inhabitant, and the second with the highest rate of immigration, after Greater Lisbon. These immigrants bring with them different cultures, traditions, religious beliefs and customs, and face many barriers to local integration. Indeed the Algarve is a diverse reality with various forms of social discrimination and spatial segregation affecting many, including economic and forced migrants. The aim of the article is to identify the urban specificities of the region; the accounts of these immigrants about their living conditions, especially in terms of housing and employment, their support activities and cultural interactions; and the digital media that transmit and amplify perceptions of threat, but also make visible (self-)representations and opportunities. Another aim is to provide a political-philosophical lens for the production of a digital road map. Following Freire’s and Harvey’s ideas of hope, the reflections intersect with an exploratory empirical socio-spatial and digital recognition of Faro (and Estoi) and Loulé (and Quarteira). The article argues that intercultural dialogues, interactions and relationships based on local experiences and situated knowledge can help us imagine alternatives and more just worlds. Conclusions discuss the analytical guidelines of this digital road map (in terms of urban layers, migrant dots, digital fluxes) and the guidance it provides to support diversity, interculturalism and community building.
- EditorialPublication . Conceição, Manuel CélioFifteen years after its first issue, the European Journal of Language Policy (EJLP) has a change of editor! I have the privilege to assume this function and I am very proud to succeed Mike Kelly, the editor since its inception. Our mission is to show the results of research on complexities of languages policies, meant broadly as languages beliefs, practices, choices and uses and their impact, fostering informed discussion and innovative thinking in the field. This issue features three papers and three interventions, offering diverse perspectives on language policy and its impact across different regions and institutions. Each contribution provides a deep dive into the specific linguistic and policy-related challenges of its respective context.
- Estudo do discurso de ódio online em comunidades de jogos: perspetivas de grupos de foco com jogadores jovensPublication . costa, susana; C. Martins, Ana Filipa; Mendes da Silva, Bruno; Martins, AlexandreEste artigo faz parte de uma investigação sobre discurso de ódio nas comunidades de videojogos online. Recorrendo a grupos de foco como metodologia qualitativa, foi possível conhecer as experiências de 19 estudantes com idades compreendidas entre os 12 e os 18 anos. A análise dos dados revelou de que formas os participantes foram afetados por discurso de ódio online, bem como as suas perceções sobre as motivações e quais as possíveis respostas para este fenómeno. Os resultados demonstram que todos os participantes experienciaram instâncias de discurso de ódio online, bem como um certo grau de aceitação de ambientes de videojogos tóxicos. Os testemunhos apontaram para o poder, a busca de diversão e o anonimato como gatilhos e motivações para comportamentos disruptivos. Este estudo serve de base para a produção de múltiplas contra-narrativas que serão implementadas em contexto escolar, com o objetivo de envolver e motivar professores, educadores e jovens alunos a refletir e discutir sobre a problemática do discurso de ódio online. Além disso, visa contribuir para uma compreensão mais ampla das perceções, comportamentos e motivações nas comunidades de jogos online, enfatizando a necessidade de uma abordagem colaborativa envolvendo jogadores, criadores de jogos e educadores para promover um ambiente mais respeitoso e inclusivo.
- Romy Schneider em Portugal: Cinema transnacional e censura no período Marcelista (1968-1974)Publication . Carrega, Jorge; Morais, Ana BelaO objetivo principal deste artigo é investigar a presença de Romy Schneider nos cinemas portugueses, em particular na região do Algarve, valorizando a dimensão transnacional do seu estrelato, e analisando, simultaneamente, os processos de censura aos filmes da atriz em Portugal. O período cronológico escolhido para este artigo vai de 1968 a 1974, ou seja, o período final da ditadura portuguesa, no qual Marcelo Caetano foi Presidente do Conselho de Ministros. Estes anos coincidem com uma representação da atriz no ecrã diferente daquela que a celebrizou nos anos 50, projetando uma imagem de pureza e candura, sobre tudo com a trilogia Sissi, a Imperatriz austríaca, e correspondem ao período áureo da sua carreira na indústria de cinema da Europa mediterrânea. Quais os comentários dos censores? Havia maior abertura nos critérios da censura aos filmes, no que respeita a mostrar imagens de corpo nu e a assuntos de ordem ética, nestes últimos anos da ditadura portuguesa? Estas são questões a que tentaremos dar resposta, tendo em conta o conteúdo dos relatórios e processos de censura. A investigação aqui apresentada desenvolveu-se nos arquivos do Secretariado Nacional da Informação e Turismo, nomeadamente nos processos de censura aos filmes estrangeiros, que estão depositados no Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo (ANTT) em Lisboa.
